Garden Design that Protects your Property

A Garden design should not only look good but also act as a deterrent to protect your property.

Top Ten ‘Do Not’s’ in the garden

Do Not: Plant big vigorous rooting trees, such as willows and birches. They will fill your drains block them and can cause subsidence.

 

Do Not: Install cheap flimsy fencing which can be removed or easily broken though giving thieves access to your property.

 

Do Not: Position your shed with bicycles and lawn mower down the bottom of the garden out of view from the house yet in view for burglars.

 

Do Not: Leave back gates, garages and sheds unlocked.

 

Do Not: Plant large trees close to the house in case the roots disturb the property.

 

Do Not: Leave valuable statues or features loose in position, it’s best to cement them in place.

 


Do Not: Plant invasive hedging plants such as Leylandii, there are many other beautiful conifers available which look great yet can be easily kept under control.

 

Do Not: Use barbed wire, instead plant a rambling rose, they are both beautiful and deadly.

 

Do Not: Think all thorny plants are ugly! There are many varieties which are great garden performers in foliage, flower, and berry that are easy to keep. Placed at the back of a border by the fence they can deter intruders.

 

Do Not: Leave fences which back onto public pavements or access to do the job of stopping intruders alone. Plant varieties such as Pyracantha (fire throne) set against them, will climb up and add significant deterrent.

 

That should plant a defence against the most hardy criminal!
