New Competition at the Ideal Home Show

Colleges to go head to head win ‘Young Gardeners of the Year’

New Competition at the Ideal Home Show

Well here goes, more innovation and pioneering for the Ideal Home Show

I am pleased to announce that we have invited 8 UK colleges to go head to head to be entered to win the prestigious accolade of ‘Young Gardeners of the Year’.  For the first time outside Earls Court, students get the chance to landscape, plant and showcase their garden in the forecourt of Earls Court for the duration of the Ideal Home Show, running from the 11th – 27th March 2011.

Colleges will showcase new ideas, skills, product, talent and determination to flourish into talented designers of today.

The pressure is on, colleges will have one week to build their garden outside the front of Earls Court.  During this time together with my team, I will be supporting them in preparation for the top line celebrity judging panel which will include someone from the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment.

The colleges need to create a garden haven from a reclaimed urban area using a 5 x 4.5 metre plot.  The garden should demonstrate an understanding of harmony and sustainability, incorporating a sense of proportion and clever use of the important vertical dimension in small, urban gardens and terraces.

The garden should inspire city dwellers, showing just what can be achieved in the most impossible of urban locations. The garden must create a sense of tranquility for the home owner; it should act as an escape from the pressures of inner city life and bring a touch of nature to the heart of the metropolis.

This is an exciting opportunity for young designers and landscapers as they embark on their career and offers a chance to bring their innovative concepts to life.  I believe it will showcase the new talent of our future.

The Ideal Home Show attracts in the region of 250,000 visitors over 17 days, a calendar event not to be missed.  Come and find out who has won the Ideal Home Show ‘Young Gardeners of the Year’, in Association with the Prince’s Foundation for the Built Environment.

I look forward to seeing you there.
