Great for Alocasia and Philodendron
I have been using this compost as the main ingredient in a potting mix for aroid plants. Mainly Alocasias and Philodendrons. Mixing this with perlite and horticultural charcoal has really had a positive impact on the health of my plants.Of course it’s hard to pin this all on the orchid bark as the other ingredients in the mix certainly contributed. However this compost is very nutrient rich and well draining so there’s little chance of root rot occurring from soggy soil.Despite this the orchid bark does hold onto moisture quite well also making it a good choice for aroid that need a well draining, nutrient rich potting mix that also does not dry out quickly.Be cautious that it does come ‘wet’ and the packaging may well be a little dripping on opening. I’d suggest moving to a sealable container for ease of use and preservation.

Flies all over the house
Nightmare!!Repotted over 15 orchids in the house and after a couple of days little flies started to come up from the compost and they r coming and coming so I had to spend over £10 for sticky fly catchers and I think I have to use some kind of chemicals too to try to get rid of them withour loosing my flowers.contacted seller but no help from their side.

Just bark
It’s basically just bark, I was hoping for bits of clay in it to help hold the moisture or something. I didn’t use this mix after all and bought a different one, so much better.

Seems to do the trick for repotting/refurbishing Orchids
I watched YouTube for advice on resuscitating a couple of “past it” Orchids, one of which was suffering from drought and the other from mistreatment in potting up at the supplier.You have to discard the old “compost” each time. This is a messy process, as is repotting with this product! The results are excellent however, although the mistreated specimen has a long recovery ahead, (but has two new leaves).Product seems to go a long way and clearly works well. I’d certainly advise watching a couple of videos, as this is not much like potting garden cuttings or seedlings.

It’s Ok but inspect and treat for Mold gnats
They need to pretreat their product for mold gnats. I’ve had to purchase further products to catch the flies and treat the larvae. These can ingest all the other plants in the house.

Very good orchid bark
Good quality orchid bark. I repotted 3 orchids, one of which looked as though it was dying…..but a few days after rinsing out the roots and repotting into a larger pot it has perked up. The others also look healthier. I’ll need more as I have another 3 in need of new pots after they’ve stopped flowering.

Great for baby orchids
Used compost to pot keikies from my dendrobium. Bark was small enough to take the young plants but not to small to get into everything else. The plants appear to be doing well.

DON’T BUY – unsterilized compost, my bag contained fungus gnats and a millipede
Read the reviews carefully – Miracle-Gro shouldn’t be selling this stuff, most compost products are sterilized these days. On inspection, fungus gnats are clearly present in the orchid compost on opening. As a result of using the product, my houseplants plants have fungus gnat infections which is incredibly difficult and costly to remediate! Factor in at least another £20 for insect killer/nematodes.

Flies – free with compost
Since using this compost to repot several orchids we have been inundated with a visitation of small black flies and three months later we stall are. I can’t PROVE they are coming out of the compost But…1. It is a cold winter so they are not coming from outside.2. This is the only organic compound I have brought into the house no new plants3. The flies seem to appear every few days I kill them with fly spray but a few days later there are a couple more4. I’m not the only reviewer to experience the release of flies.I will not be buying this compost again.

release flies , don’t buy it
release a lot of little flies…don’t buy it!.I am 100 percent sure the flies are from the?compost bag, as I put the bag in my indoor storage, just one day I found too many flies in that room and they just come from the bag. I pull the compost out of the bag and I was shocked by how many insects in it. i can’t believe they sell such product for indoor plants. I have no confident with the brand any more..

Don’t buy!!
Looked like Good compost, but within 1 or 2 days, small insects/flies started to hatch out of the compost!! There was a whole infestation of flies inside the house within days! Absolute nightmare. I had filled the compost into 14 pots of orchids, which I had spread out around the house. The whole house was full of this small black flies within a matter of days!! So I highly suggest that nobody bother to buy from this seller!! I had to buy insecticides, more than 1 since some of them did nothing, had to eventually remove all the pots from inside the house and had to leave the orchids outside in the winter. The orchids are all dead now! More than £100 worth of orchids, all dead. The dead flies were dropping all over the house carpets and getting stuck to it. There are no words to describe how horrible the whole situation was. The flies were breeding like crazy, which left me no choice but to remove all the pots outside!
