Pea hurst green shaft seed by Mr. Fothergill’s. Productive and sweet. One of the best traditional strains and a good choice if you intend to exhibit. Vigorous, reliable with a superb sweet flavour.Height: 75 cm/30in.Useful Information: Awarded the Royal Horticultural Society Award of Garden Merit; Vitamin C; Vitamin B; Vitamin KSow and grow: Outdoors, March-June where they are to crop, in flat drills 15 cm (6-inch) wide and 5 cm (2-inch) deep, in well-cultivated, fertile soil. Sow in a zig-zag fashion along the drill, allowing 5 cm (2-inch) between seeds. Fill the drill with fine soil and firm down gently. Allow 60 cm (2-feet) between rows. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 10-18 days. Harvest: May-September.Hints and tips: Protect seedlings from birds with twigs or bird scarers. Water well during dry spells. Ideal for deep freezing.Care and Cultivation: Early sowings benefit from frost protection. Stick or twigs, placed either side of the row for support, will make picking easier.
