Useful Information: Suitable for exhibition and showbench

Sow and Grow: Sow indoors for surest results, 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) deep, on edge, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position.  A temperature of 15-20 degree C (60-68 degree F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 90 cm (3 feet) apart, when frosts are over.

Or sow outdoors for ease, where they are to crop, 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) deep directly into finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Allow 90 cm (3 feet) between positions. Sow two seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave stronger plant. Water well until plants are established. Pinch out the growing tips when 4-5 fruits have started to develop. To grow a giant allow only one pumpkin to develop per plant.

Hints and Tips: Raise fruits on straw to protect against rotting if ground is wet.  Regular liquid feeds and consistent watering is essential to grow a giant.

Have had these before and they have never let me down but this season I’ve had just the one germinate out of 12

I used to grow this pumpkin for fun for many years when I had an allotment and achieved massive fruits that could never be lifted . You need a lot of space ( 6 x 3 mtrs min.) in a sunny fertile site. Start the seeds in late spring (4in. pots are good) in warmth and good light . Transfer (pot on) into larger pots as required, do not allow the plant to become potbound at any stage. Grow on in frost free greenhouse or coldframe. I use to end up with single plants in 8in. pots by planting out time. Prepare the planting hole by digging in compost or rotted manure. Plant out your best plant (or all if you have room ) in early summer and keep watered during dry spells. Allow several fruits to form and select the best one on the main vine, removing all others. Now feed weekly. Harvest your giant in autumn and save the best seed for next year to grow an even bigger one. Good luck and have fun.

Only two of the seeds didn’t germinate out of the packet they are growing lovely and ready for halloween.Tip i learnt was to water at the base of the plant rather than all over to prevent rot ☺️

Would be a higher rating as the plants I have are really healthy, but only half of the seeds germinated.
