Description
Sow indoors, from April to July, to flower the same year, 0.5 cm (1/4-inch) deep, in a tray of compost. Water well and place in a cold frame or greenhouse. Seedlings usually appear in 14-28 days. Keep moist. Transplant to other trays, 5 cm (2 inches) apart, when large enough to handle. Always hold by a leaf, never by the stem. Gradually accustom young plants to outside conditions, before planting out to flowering positions in well-drained soil, between August and October, 20 cm (8-inches) apart. Or, sow thinly, outdoors, between May and July, in a seed bed, into finely-prepared, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Thin seedlings to 5 cm (2-inches) apart, before planting out, from August to October, to flowering positions. Enjoythe flowers from October to June.
Hints and Tips: Remove dead heads to prolong the flowering season. Plants will not stay in bloom if the winter is severe, but will restart when conditions improve.

Michelle Atterbury –
They sprouted but all died. They are hard to start from seeds. I tried twice. First time nothing. Second time sprouted but died. This may have something to do with me as I have never started pansies from seed. However, overall result was disappointing.
