Product Description
Bunyards exhibition broad bean seed by Mr. Fothergill’s. Reliable longpod variety. Popular and versatile, for autumn and spring sowing, 6-8 white seeds per pod for large crops. Full of flavour. Height: 100 cm/40in. Useful Information: Vitamin B; Vitamin C; Folate; Dietary fibre Sow and grow: Outdoors October-November or February-May, where they are to crop, 5 cm (2-inch) deep, directly into finely-prepared, well-cultivated, fertile soil, which has already been watered. To make the best use of space, sow seeds 23 cm (9-inch) apart, in a wide row in a zigzag pattern, leaving a space of 60 cm (2-feet) between each row. Seedlings usually appear in 10-18 days. Water well until plants are established. Successiol sowings will ensure a continuous supply and longer harvest. Or sow indoors February-April, 2.5 cm (1-inch) deep into individual pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20 degree C (60-68 degree F) is ideal. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 23 cm (9-inch) apart during April-May. Harvest: June-August. Hints and tips: Pinch out growing tips when first pods are approximately 1 cm (4-inch) long. This encourages an early crop and helps deter blackfly. Ideal for deep freezing. Care and Cultivation: Early and late sowings benefit from cloche protection.

j.todd –
I’m growing them for my neighbour as she’s had no luck. They’re growing nicely. Sometimes I get the odd seed that doesn’t grow but all of these have.
PHILIP –
These arrived on time. I have not grown this variety before. I planted them outside in late October. They have all germinated and are now about 1ft. tall. It remains to be seen how well they develop and how well they crop.
