Mr Fothergills – Pictorial Packet – Green Manure Autumn / Winter Mix – 100g Seeds
£3.74
Description
This mix includes clovers to fix nitrogen in the soil, providing nutrients for crops. Also contains rye grass and white mustard to improve soil structure. Prevents nutrients being washed away and adds valuable organic material.
Sow outdoors September to November or through to February if the soil is not too cold and wet. Broadcast the seed over finely prepared soil which has already been watered. Dig in, anytime before flowering and 4-5 weeks before the ground is required. Cut the plants back and allow the foliage to wilt before digging the crop in to a depth of 15-20cm (6-8in). Chop up the foliage with the spade as you dig. Over wintered crops can be dug into the soil in spring. Ensure plants are cut back or dug in before they set seed. Mix made up of 15% Crimson Clover (Trifolium incarnatum) 20% Broad Leaf Clover (Trifolium pratense) 30% Westerwolths Rye Grass (Lolium multiflorum) 35% White Tilney Mustard (Sinapsis alba)

RJW –
Bought these to replenish my vegetable patch. Planted them last October and they grew quickly over winter. Have now dug them in to provide soil nutrients and hoping for a bumper crop.

I am now using this for the second time. I don’t know how nutritious the plants are to the soil but sewing them is ridiculously simple and I ended up with a bed full of fast growing plants that I can simply turn over to act as a compost. I feel it’s a very simple step I can take to repair the soil and it is also quite attractive to look at rather than just lying fallow.
Mr. Keith Gray –
Does a good job
Caveat emptor –
I am a relatively new gardener and I saw an item on green manure on a recent gardening programme. What a brilliant and inexpensive idea for improving the soil in the veg garden over winter. I sowed the seeds last week – a little goes a long way, enough for 20 sq m in the packet – and already they are sprouting. Excellent job!
Debs503 –
I’m very pleased with the purchase. It was exactly as advertised and arrived on time.

Hopefully the Seeds will Help to Produce a god Harvest.

Did the job, geminated as expected when sown in August last year. Provided excellent covering mix of phalicea, mustard greens, and some rye grass which I dug in in October – should have left it a bit later but, hey, I’m always learning on the plot. Good product. Good value.
G. Hart –
The seeds germinated very quickly and now the plants are well established hopefully till early spring. Excellent in
