When and How to Feed Butterflies?

Feeding butterflies is essential at the start and end of the summer season when natural nectar sources from suitable plants may be in short supply. Try these items in your feeding tray during these times of the year.

  • Sliced fruits (rotting or old fruits work best). Such as strawberries, peaches, apples, or bananas.
  • Sugar syrup water.
  • Prepared butterfly food packets.

A Convenient and Safe Resting Spot

When butterflies rest, they must find a place to roost. This carefully designed house for butterflies is made of untreated wood (without chemical treatments) and made of durable Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified timber.

  • Untreated wood and slats for roosting during night-time or rain.
  • Looks great in the garden and is safe for wildlife, butterflies, and insects.
  • FSC timber is responsibly managed, socially beneficial, conscious to the environment, and economically viable.

For All Seasons

Many butterflies and insects need a space to outlast the cold or freezing temperatures in their summer habitat. In the spring, they emerge to lay eggs and begin the next stage of life.

  • Fold up the tray to provide a cosy shelter for overwintering butterflies.
  • Many non-migratory butterfly and moth species overwinter in the larval or pupae stage.
  • This butterfly habitat is truly multipurpose!

    It’s just OK

The feeding drop down hinge is very tight and doesn’t stay down. Can’t even put anything in it!!! It’s cute but I’m afraid it will serve little to no function.

    ME

    Still waiting for activity

Color is questionable. Butterflys like bright colors but this house is painted a pail eggshell blue. Had to attach brightly colored flowers to help attraction. In the house there is a removeable butterfly rest section for multiple birds, but very poorly made of rough wood mis- aligned (had to re-align a few sections). Nectar cups will attract bees & hornets & collect rain which will dilute the nectar. Hanging method has one hook on the back to attach it to a flat vertical surface, I had to improvise to hang it from a poll with by adding another hook on the front with a chain attached.Too much messing around for me.

    Disappointed

Middle board inside the house is warped some and the paint on the outside of the house is scuffed a bit. Both of these things will probably happen when put outside, but it was supposed to be a gift. I was disappointed.

    Clever!

At a glance, the butterfly house is adorable (and a great idea). Simple attention to detail in the craftsmanship would have made it 5 star. It needed a bit of sanding before applying the finish.

    Came cracked at seams

Was disappointed in the quality, the wood has a large gap/crack at the top seam which made it ungiftable.

    Great Look

It’s very cute. So far I haven’t seen a butterfly use it, although I don’t watch it that much. The nectar area does draw ants. But they are easily cleaned off and new nectar inserted.

Was this meant to be used outdoors?

Had this product since June 4. It is now August 3. Paint is peeling like crazy. Worried that butterflies, birds , bees and other creatures in my garden will ingest the paint chips.

    Terrible quality

The bee house from the same company is excellent, really high quality. This, sadly, is not. Within a few months the roof had split apart, the paint was peeling, the whole thing was warped out of shape. So disappointing.

    Cute and functional

I really liked the butterfly house and it was as pictured/described. I had ordered 2 as gifts to give to friends who had done me several favors. They arrived. One was perfect. The other had an obvious crack in a piece of wood. I would have sent it back, but we friends were getting together for a celebration as my thank you to them, and I didn’t have time to send the one back and wait on another. So I gave the one with a cracked piece of wood to my friend with an apology. My rating would have been a 5 otherwise.
