Plant a Spring Bulb “Lasagne” Pot
(3 easy steps)
October is perfect for layered bulb pots that flower for months. Use a frost-proof container with drainage and peat-free compost mixed with grit.
- Base & Tulips – Line the pot with crocks or small stones, and fill halfway with compost. Set tulip bulbs point up, spaced evenly. Cover with 5-7 cm of peat-free compost.
- Middle Layer – Add narcissus (daffodil) bulbs above the tulips, offsetting so they don’t sit directly over them. Cover with another 5-7 cm of peat-free compost.
- Top & Finish – Add crocus or muscari, then top up to 2 cm from the pot’s rim. Water once, label, and keep outside with the compost just moist, protecting from severe frost.
Top Tip: The largest bulbs generally go at the bottom, mid-sized in the middle, and smallest at the top.
