Seasonal Advice
Force Hyacinths Indoors
for Christmas
(3 easy steps)
Early September is perfect to line up hyacinth vases and prepared bulbs; they need about 8–10 weeks cool and dark, then 2–3 weeks indoors to finish for Christmas.
- Set the bulb above the water in a hyacinth glass (water just below the base so only the roots touch).
- Keep in a cool, dark place until the roots form, and shoots reach approximately 4 to 5 cm; top up water as needed.
- Move it into a bright, cool indoor light to flower. Avoid radiators and direct sun for sturdier stems.
