March Gardening: Get Set for Spring
Hi there,
March is finally here, and I can already feel the garden shifting gears. Brighter mornings, softer afternoons, and those first real signs of growth make everything feel more cheerful. By the end of the month, the extra daylight makes a big difference.
With Mother’s Day coming up, it’s a lovely time to bring a little spring indoors. Pots of primroses, mini daffodils, hyacinths, and more make cheerful gifts that will flower for weeks. Or, for a small bouquet from the garden, you may already have the first tulips opening, depending on where you are.
You could also get ahead of summer colour. Planting dahlia tubers, begonia tubers, lily bulbs, and peony rhizomes now will give you better displays later on. You can learn some of my planting tips and tricks for summer colour in the latest episode of Step-by-Step Gardening.
More gardening advice is available in my brand new monthly blogs below, covering some fantastic plants for interest this month, and some great early spring blooms for butterflies and bees.
I’ve got a few upcoming events over the next few weeks. See the dates and locations below:
- 24th March – Poplar Nurseries
- 26th March – Golden Days Garden Centre
- 27th March – Carr Farm Garden Centre
- 28th March – Beetham Nurseries
- 10th, 11th, and 18th April – The Ideal Home Show
I’m keen to hear what you’d like to see more of in the newsletter. Just reply and let me know your ideas.
Enjoy your garden.
David
