December: The holidays are coming!

Hi ,

It really feels like winter is upon us this week, with much of the country under a blanket of frost (or even snow) the last couple of days. But there is plenty to look forward to as the days get shorter, and all the festivities to anticipate as the month comes to a close.

Consider adding some December colour to your garden with my top ten plants to enjoy in your garden this month. Or consider some of these festive plants that not only you can enjoy, but you could also gift to your friends and family.

This time of the month is the most exciting time when you can look forward to decorating your home, including the main event: your Christmas tree. Before you head out to choose a tree for your home this month, watch this video to make sure you are picking the perfect one to suit your needs.

You can catch me on Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh on ITV on Sunday, December 17th. Make sure to tune in for some garden gadget gifts for your green-fingered friends.

This December, get yourself a hot drink and enjoy your garden indoors if the weather is on the colder side. For advice and my best gardening tips, visit my website and YouTube channel.

Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year!

David

Choose your pine cones

If the weather permits, head out with your loved ones to your nearest local pine tree. You might be lucky enough to have one in your garden. Choose a selection of your favourite pine cones.

Paint on your base

Choose what colour you would like your pine cone Christmas tree base to be. I’ve used gold and silver some sparkle, but you can choose whatever colour you would like. I’ve also added some spray-on snow for a wintery feel.

Add your chosen decorations

The world is your oyster when it comes to decoration. Pompoms, tinsel, glitter, even a little star on the top. Maybe even try to match your design to your home’s Christmas colour scheme! I’ve even used a wine cork and ribbon to give one a trunk.

Add any final touches

Add any other details you would like to your tree. I’ve added some string to one of mine, so I can add it to my Christmas tree decoration collection. You could also pop it on top of some florist wire or a long, thin stick to add it to your Christmas bouquets or other displays.
