August in the Garden

Hi there,

August is a lovely month to enjoy everything your garden has built up over the summer months. Dahlias and other late-summer flowers are thriving, crops are ready to harvest, and there are plenty of worthwhile jobs to do. After such a hot and dry summer, it’s also worth giving plants and lawns a little extra consideration.

If your lawn has turned brown in the dry weather, don’t be too concerned. Established grass is remarkably resilient and should recover when wetter conditions return. Avoid cutting or feeding it during very dry spells, and when you do mow, leave the grass slightly longer to help it cope better with the conditions.

There’s plenty more seasonal advice in my latest monthly blogs below, with useful ideas to help you enjoy the garden now and prepare for the change of season ahead.

Step-by-Step Gardening is also heading out on the road this September, with live demonstrations, seasonal advice and plenty of opportunities to ask your gardening questions. To find an event near you, follow this link.

As always, I’m keen to hear what you would like to see more of in the newsletter, so do feel free to reply and share your ideas.

Enjoy your garden,

David
